Memory lane

While I was working on Montgolfiere last night, and trying to figure out what to do with the gusset area of the sock, (since I am not doing a short-row heel as the pattern suggests), I remembered my very first venture into 2-color knitting. This pair of socks was probably the 5th pair I ever made. Pretty brave for a newbie, but I was determined!!

I still have the pattern booklet, and also the original pattern that held my hand thru the entire process of knitting a sock. "Wisconsin Winter Socks" - a wonderful companion. I have hand-written the date of 1990 in it. So, it has indeed been 16 years of knitting socks - off and on anyway. The Wisconsin Socks were made with 2 strands of yarn held together and knit as one, one worsted weight, and one fingering weight. They are tall socks with calf shaping. Hmmm.... might be fun to make those again. (Especially since a cold Iowa winter is on it's way!!)

And, while I am going down memory lane, I wonder where all the years have gone...
My "baby" is 27 years old today!! Happy Birthday, Anna! You've grown up to be a wonderful young woman, who makes me proud, every day!!

LOVE those socks! They actually look like stranded knitting. What a unique concept - holding two strands together and knitting them at the same time.

Speaking of cold winters....I have 9" of snow with more on the way...

I love the socks!

I'm not sure where the time has gone either... it just seems to keep slipping by faster all the time.

Happy Birthday to your Anna :)
