By way of Iceland....

I have completed the first pair of mittens for the "Mittens for Akkol" December challenge thru CIC. While I hope to make several pairs from Sock-yarn scraps, these are made from a "lopi"- type yarn that came directly from Iceland. I purchased yarn to make a sweater last year, while in Iceland. The prices were so reasonable! Which I could have brought home much more, but we were with a group of travelers and somewhat limited in our luggage allowance.

The sweater could not be warmer! Partnered with a turtle neck and mitts, you are as warm as toast! Again - my avoidance of color!! Guess the mitts will not be too exciting for a young 'un. But, perhaps there is a color-shy child somewhere also!! I think I was one of those :)

That is a fabulous sweater, I love it! I lived in Iceland when I was kid, Dad was stationed there at the NATO base. I just completed a sweater with unspun Icelandic wool but do not like the colors I chose, it was my first attempt at this type of project. I am so impressed with yours though.

The mittens look great (as does the sweater, but my hands are cold right now so I'm leaning more towards the mittens. They look so warm!)

Wow. I love both. I am somewhat new to knitting (picked it up again in January/February after about 10 or 15 years), so I am still learning where to find the best patterns. Can you recommend a book or free pattern for this type of knitting? I really want to make baby and child sweaters in a similar fashion. Beautiful. I'm glad I happened upon your blog today! (I'm a fellow Saturday Sky-er.) Have a great weekend!
