Now entering the black hole.....

Now, it goes without saying that I dearly love this husband of mine - but his size 12 1/2 EEEE size feet!!!! -- YIKES!!

I have put it off long enough! I have the yarn - 2oo grms (yes - double the normal amount needed for a pair of adult socks) of Regia, straight from the Netherlands. The "Manly" color received a nod of approval, and with last minute instuctions "I don't want them too tight" (What, did he think I was going to Cheat???).... I am now entering the black hole of "Manly Giant Socks". (Thank God, he didn't want black!!)

I normally do not do gauge swatches, but in this case, I did. So, with an 8.5 st per inch, and an 11.5" instep - I am hoping that 96 stitches will be a good size. I am going to use a ribbing - to try to give it a little snuggness, without making them too "tight". I know - that negative ease thing - I am ignoring due to the "too tight" concern.

After my Akkol mittens, returning to my dear 2.25/2.00 mm pony pearls will be a welcome event. I plan to start them on the 2.25 and move to 2.00 as I near the small of his ankle. "Small"-- vbg!!

So - see you folks on the other side. May come up for air from time to time, and will post some updates. Wish me luck. Hope I don't miss Christmas!! By.......

OMG! 12 1/2 EEEE feet!?!?! I thought knitting for my son in law is a size 12 feet was bad but you've got it worst. I can do a pair of socks out of one ball of Opal with about 12" of yarn left over.

Good luck with those big old socks! My husband's feet are a size 10 and I was so relieved to finish his socks (on size 1 dpns, ugh). LOL it made my sons' lil socks seem like a piece of cake!

I would love to make my husband a pair of socks and his feet are not huge at all, he has no desire for handknit socks. But, I did make my brother and his size 13 foot, socks a couple years ago and thought I would be knitting that foot forever. Good Luck!
