"Nuttin but knittin" - that says it all, with an occasional deviation into the real world.

Going full circle......

Not much posting mojo for today, but keeping with my Sunday afternoon updates, I'm forging ahead.  Perhaps I will become inspired.....   No sweater photos this week, but I should have finished photos next week.  It's coming along nicely.

In last week's post, I mentioned my plan to attend a spinners/weaver's guild meeting with a friend.  It turned out to be a great day.....totally fiber related, and quite enjoyable.  My intention was to accompany my friend to the guild meeting.  She is a relatively new spinner, and a brand new owner of a rigid heddle loom.  So......that was the plan......to accompany her, and enjoy the atmosphere.  Nothing more.

But....instead I was totally caught up in what was primarily weaving conversations!  Years ago (as in 20 or so), I was once a weaver.  So, as the weaving terms and jargon were exchanged between guild members, little neurons in my brain began firing!  As in.....like crazy!  "I remember....."  "I think that means......"  "I used to......".  "I think I still.......".  My head was just spinning.

So, later the next day, I went exploring in the dark corners of the underground.....AKA my scary basement!  The scary part that is nothing but storage of long lost memories.  And, what should I uncover:

My long-time abandoned 48" 4 harness Loomcraft floor loom.  Sadly, I left her fully warped, with a project on board.

Hmmm...I have NO IDEA how I did this.  I made some really nice cotton dish towels, and bread cloths with various weaves, but sadly, I have NO recollection.

Further exploration uncovered a tote with a "weaving" post-it on the side.  Yes - my "bible", and various shuttles, Handwoven magazines, etc.  I was quite thrilled.  I actually thought most of those items were long gone.

I do remember that this was the carpet warp that I used for rug weaving,

And these cones are "8/2" cotton.  Not sure what that means, but I do know this was the cotton with which I wove the towels.

Now, I'm not saying that I'll be weaving again anytime soon, but I was pleased to find that I still had my supplies (although the yarns may well disintegrate if actually used).  The loom and warping board I knew I had....but the "how to books", well that was a great pleasure to find.  Funny, I'm not sure what phase in my "creative" life came to replace the weaving phase.  Perhaps basketry, or pottery?  Yes - there are totes labeled with those too.  LOL - knitting has pretty much been a constant through my entire life.  Other passions have obviously come and gone.  No promises that this one will be resurrected, but my brain is still twitching, I must admit.

Now - I dropped a clue last week.....involving that "fiber day" on a Tuesday.  How did I manage that, when I would normally have BG, Monday thru Friday.  Well......I'm back into retirement mode.  BG's mom (DD) decided to take some time off from the career and be a full time stay at home mom with him.  She wanted to spend some good quality time with him before he starts kindergarten next fall.

I had several weeks notice, so I've been preparing myself, but it's still hard.  I miss the little bugger so much, but I am glad that financially she could afford to stay home with him, and that she chose to do that.  They both will benefit from the time together.  But....well I miss him.....let's just leave it at that.  He is my grandson, and he'll still be coming to grandma's house, and on sleepovers, etc.... so I'll adjust.  It's just been such a fun 4 1/2 years...... and hopefully the bond between us is strong, and he will have fond memories of our time together.  I clearly remember holding him for the very first time, and falling totally in love......

Somehow, the hold he has on my heart has only grown over the years.......

Guess I'm just a sucker for a cute little grin......

What a fortunate gramma you've been to spend so much time with him. You've formed a bond that will last all of your lives. Now on to a new chapter!

I hope, when I'm a grandma, that I'm able to bond with my grandchildren as you have with BG.

Just wanted to tell you that I've been knitting my Chickadee Mittens and my gauge is WAY off (7.5 instead of 10.5 stitches to the inch) so I may have to rejigger the pattern. I can't knit any tighter without risking injury to my hands!

Take heart Kathy. You will adjust to life with a little less BG. I had my grandkids actually live with me for over nine months and when they moved out, I thought I would never get over having them gone. Of course, they weren't really gone. Now, I think back on how special that time was and how fortunate I was to be able to spend all that precious time with them. You'll do the same and you know how how much your sweet little grandson loves you. You were there for him during all those formative years and that's a bond that will last forever.

Amazing what a little digging around will unearth, isn't it? Little ones do grow quickly, that's for sure. Smart of your DD to realize that! You've been lucky to have had the opportunity to watch him grow, and I'm sure your bond will be a lasting one.
